What’s Coming to Celebration Key: Carnival’s Expansion and Growth Plans

Celebration Key is already one of the most talked about new cruise destinations in the Caribbean, and its future expansion plans are just as significant as its initial debut. Developed by Carnival Cruise Line on Grand Bahama Island, this exclusive resort destination continues to grow in both scale and long term vision. With Phase 1 now open and welcoming guests, attention is quickly turning toward Phase 2 and beyond, where expanded infrastructure, increased capacity, and potential new attractions are expected to shape the future of Celebration Key.

What is Celebration Key?

Celebration Key is a purpose built private resort area created exclusively for guests sailing with Carnival Cruise Line. Located on Grand Bahama Island, the destination is not a private island but rather a dedicated port experience that blends beach relaxation with resort style amenities. It officially opened in 2025 as part of a larger development project that represents one of the most significant investments Carnival has made in the Caribbean.

The destination was designed to function as a full day port stop with a mix of beaches, lagoons, dining venues, entertainment, and premium upgrades. From the beginning, Celebration Key was planned with future growth in mind, with only a portion of the total land currently developed and large areas reserved for expansion.

What Experiences are Currently Offered at Celebration Key?

Celebration Key is divided into several themed areas that cater to different types of cruise passengers. Paradise Plaza serves as the central hub, connecting all areas of the destination and offering guest services, shopping, and access to transportation. From there, guests can explore Starfish Lagoon, which focuses on family friendly activities with splash areas, casual dining, and beach access, or Calypso Lagoon, which blends a more social atmosphere with music, bars, and additional beach space.

For those looking for an upgraded experience, Pearl Cove Beach Club provides an adults only environment with a private beach, infinity pool, and full service restaurant. Across the destination, guests will find a mix of complimentary and paid experiences, including a large freshwater lagoon, waterslides, beach loungers, cabanas, water sports rentals, and a variety of dining options. The destination is fully cashless, and while one meal is included through the Island Eats program, additional food and all beverages are available for purchase.

Celebration Key Phase 2: Major Expansion Ongoing

With Phase 1 complete, Carnival has already moved forward with Phase 2 of the Celebration Key expansion. This next stage represents a major investment and is designed to significantly increase the destination’s capacity and long term scalability. The expansion is part of a broader project that totals approximately $600 million of investment across Grand Bahama Island.

Phase 2 is expected to focus primarily on infrastructure and growth readiness, including expanded guest capacity and additional space for future attractions. Carnival has developed only a portion of the total land available, leaving over 150 acres open for future use after accounting for protected wetlands and existing development. The layout of the destination has been intentionally designed to accommodate more visitors while maintaining space and flow across the resort.

Current projections estimate that Celebration Key could welcome close to 4 million guests annually by 2028, up from initial projections of just over 2 million visitors when the destination first opened.

Pier Extension

One of the most important components of the Phase 2 expansion is the ongoing pier extension. When Celebration Key first opened, it was capable of accommodating two ships at the same time. The new expansion will add two additional berths, allowing up to four ships to dock simultaneously once completed.

This expanded pier is being built to handle Carnival’s largest vessels, including Excel class ships and the upcoming “Project Ace” ships, ensuring that even the biggest ships in the fleet can visit the destination without limitations. The pier expansion alone represents a $100 million investment and is expected to be completed in phases, with increased ship traffic already beginning to appear on select dates in late 2025.

Although Carnival has not confirmed an exact final completion date for all pier upgrades, the long term goal is to fully support four ship operations on a consistent basis, significantly increasing the number of guests visiting Celebration Key each day.

Additional Cruise Lines to Visit Celebration Key

While Celebration Key was initially developed for Carnival Cruise Line, it was always intended to serve multiple brands within Carnival Corporation. That plan is now becoming a reality, with additional cruise lines officially scheduled to call on the destination in the coming years.

Princess Cruises has announced that it will begin visiting Celebration Key starting November 2026, with several ships scheduled throughout the 2026 and 2027 Caribbean seasons. This marks the first expansion beyond Carnival Cruise Line and signals a broader rollout across the corporation’s portfolio.

AIDA Cruises is also set to visit Celebration Key beginning in November 2027, further expanding the destination’s reach. These additions will increase overall visitor numbers and reinforce the need for expanded infrastructure such as the new pier and future development areas.

What's Next for Celebration Key?

Beyond the pier expansion and increased cruise traffic, Carnival has not officially confirmed specific new attractions or features for Celebration Key. However, there is significant available land for development, and early statements and industry discussions have pointed to possible additions such as a waterpark, zipline course, and event spaces. This would match other significant investments made by rival cruise lines at their own private island resorts and make Celebration Key one of the largest and diverse resorts in the Bahamas.

It is important to note that these features have not been formally announced or finalized by Carnival Cruise Line. Any future attractions remain speculative at this stage, based on early concepts, unofficial comments from Carnival employees, or long term planning discussions. Carnival has indicated that additional Phase 2 details and future development plans will be confirmed at a later date.

What is clear is that the destination was designed with expansion in mind, and the remaining undeveloped land provides flexibility for future growth as demand increases.

Celebration Key Expansion Recap

Celebration Key is already a major addition to the Caribbean cruise landscape, offering a purpose built resort experience exclusively for Carnival guests. With beaches, lagoons, dining, and premium experiences, it delivers a full day destination that continues to evolve.

Looking ahead, the Phase 2 expansion will play a critical role in shaping the future of Celebration Key. The pier extension will allow up to four ships to visit at once, dramatically increasing capacity and paving the way for nearly 4 million annual visitors. At the same time, additional cruise lines within Carnival Corporation are beginning to include the destination in their itineraries.

with is strong interest in what future attractions may be added and significant land still available for development, Celebration Key remains a destination built not just for today, but for continued growth in the years ahead.
